AmsterDans masterclasses provide the opportunity for dancers to take classes with different teachers than they are used to and to have a new learning experience. The masterclass teachers are all highly qualified and very experienced.

Teachers of participating students are welcome to observe.

Masterclasses will be held at Chassé Dance Studios Chasseestraat 64, 1057 JJ Amsterdam

Maurice Causey
Maurice Causey

Maurice is an American born European based artist. His training includes School of the American Ballet,the American Ballet Theater school, and the Joffery Ballet School in New York City. Maurice was for eight years a Principal Dancer with William Forsythe’s Frankfurt Ballet and also danced with the Cleveland Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, The National Ballet of Canada, and as Principal Dancer with the Gothenburg Ballet in Sweden. Mr. Causey has been Ballet Master for both the Royal Swedish Ballet (2002-2003) and The Netherlands Dance Theatre 1 (2004-2010). He has choreographed original works and guest taught for companies across the world.

Gaia Lemmi (IT)
Gaia Lemmi

Born in Livorno, Italy, Gaia went to the Ecole Supérieur de Danse “Rosella Hightower” in Cannes (F). In 1991/1992 she won the annual scholarship of Italian Art and Culture Ministry for professional dancer and choreographic techniques. Gaia is the director and main teacher of Areadanza Livorno and artistic director and judge of the international dance competition “Livorno in Danza. She has been on the jury of many other competitions in Europe and gives masterclasses in ballet and contemporary in several dance centers, academies and seminars for professional dancers around the world.

Anne Suurendonk

Anne Suurendonk
Anne (1988) is a Dutch choreographer, teacher and dancer. She was educated at the Theaterschool Amsterdam at the Jazz-Musical Dance department. Now she works mostly as a choreographer at different companies (DOX, AYA) and academies. The movement language she developed is very characteristic for her work, and is the main focus in her class. Her academic background mixed with her urban feel makes a unique, natural fusion and organic contemporary movement language, strongly driven by music. Rhythmical and dynamic.

Emanouela Merdjanova

Emanouela Merdjanova
Emanouela graduated The National Ballet School in Bulgaria and has been a professional ballet dancer for nearly 20 years. She worked at the National Opera and Ballet – Bulgaria, the Jeune Ballet du France, Ballet du Capitol Toulouse in France, Finnish National Ballet, and most recently the Dutch National Ballet where she worked her way  from Corps de ballet to Soloist. She has worked with leading ballet choreographers In her repertoire and has danced Clara in The Nutcracker, Aurora and Blue Bird in Sleeping Beauty, leads in Shostakovich Trilogy and  many more leading roles . Emanouela has  a ballet teaching diploma from the Vaganova Academy in Amsterdam and is teacher and balletmistress for the Junior company of the Dutch National Ballet. Emanouela  teaches the Bachelor level of classical ballet at the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam.

Elita Cannata
Elita Cannata 

Born in Italy, Elita Cannata is currently based in Amsterdam. She has studied Countertechnique since 2005 and performed for anoukvandijk dc in 2007 and 2008. She attended her first Countertechnique Teacher Training (CTTT) program in 2014 and, with the support of the Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, returned to the CTTT in 2018 and progressed to the level Senior Teacher.

Elita Cannata graduated with a Bachelor of Dance in 2007 at Rotterdam Dance Academy / Codarts in the Netherlands and in 2011 got her MA in Theories of Performing Arts at the Università degli Studi in Bologna. During and after her graduation she danced for José Navas, Megumi Nakamura, anoukvandijk dc, Cathy Sharp Ensemble, Compagnia Tpo, Tan Temel, Samuele Cardini, Lynsey Peisinger, Fabio Liberti, Itzik Galili, David Middendorp, and Fabrizio Favale among others. Next to her dance and teaching career, she also works for several dance companies in the Netherlands as a Rehearsal Director.

For me dance is a perfect moment of connection with what is happening inside and outside myself. It is a joyful exploration, a discovery in time and space of a momentum impossible to grasp, therefore endlessly challenging. ”
