AmsterDans masterclasses provide the opportunity for dancers to take class with different teachers than they are used to and to have a new learning experience. The masterclass teachers are all highly qualified and very experienced.
Teachers of participating students are welcome to observe.

Marieke is owner and director of Ballet School Marieke van der Heijden, one of the most important in The Netherlands. She is associated with the National Ballet Academy NBA) as a teacher and coordinator of the pre-NBA course for children. Marieke is a member of the AFMDC (l’Association Francaise des Maitres de Danse Classique) and certified Marieke is also ABT® Certified Teacher for levels Pre-Primary through level 5.
Born in Livorno, Italy, Gaia went to the Ecole Supérieur de Danse “Rosella Hightower” in Cannes (F). In 1991/1992 she won the annual scholarship of Italian Art and Culture Ministry for professional dancer and choreographic techniques. Gaia is the director and main teacher of Areadanza Livorno and artistic director and judge of the international dance competition “Livorno in Danza. She has been on the jury of many other competitions in Europe and gives masterclasses in ballet and contemporary in several dance centers, academies and seminars for professional dancers around the world.

Jane studied in California and graduated from the National Ballet School of Canada. In 1979 she joined Het Nationale Ballet where she was promoted to principal dancer in 1990. Jane danced all the leading roles of the company’s classical and contemporary repertoire including works of Van Dantzig, Balanchine, Van Schayk, Ashton and Van Manen. Jane coordinates the Scouting and Outreach Program of the National Ballet Academy and also teaches there ballet, variations, and repertory classes.
Dalton Jansen graduated from the Academy of Theater and Dance in Amsterdam and in a short time has gained an impressive amount of achievements as both a teacher and choreographer. His work has won prizes at the Rotterdam Open Podium, Rotterdam Fanatics and the AmsterDans completion. He is founder and director of the DDJ Dance Company which performs and organizes workshops and classes with international teachers and choreographers. Dalton teaches classes and workshops in the style of urban contemporary both in The Netherlands and abroad.
Esther Protzman danced with the Royal Ballet of Flanders, Antwerp and later as a soloist with the National Ballet, Amsterdam. She danced leading roles in the Balanchine repertoire, the works of van Dantzig, van Manen, van Schayk, and the classical repertoire. Esther completed the ‘Classical Ballet Vaganova Methodology’ at the Hungarian Ballet Academy, Budapest. She has guest taught at the Dutch National Ballet, The National Ballet Academy, The Hungarian Dance Academy, Scapino Ballet, and other companies and institutions. Esther has been a teacher at the Royal Conservatoire at The Hague since 2001.
Bart Sluis has been teaching since 2004 at different dance schools and institutions in The Netherlands. These include the Academy of Theatre and Dance Amsterdam, the Utrecht Dance Academy, and many others. Currently he is working with the 5 O’Clock Class, the Urban Contemporary (JMD) program at the Academy of Theatre and Dance Amsterdam, and at Chassé Dance studios. He gives workshops, classes and masterclasses in contemporary dance, partnering and release stretch classes.
Simon danced with the Dutch National Ballet (HNB), and later received his Professional Dancers’ Teaching Diploma (PDTD). He went on teach for many companies and schools including Krisztina de Châtel, HNB, Ballet Rambert, Paris Opera School, National Ballet of Canada, Ballet Rambert, Introdans , Scapino, NDT, Ballet Frankfurt (Forsythe), Cullberg Ballet, Scottish Ballet, Ballet de Monte Carlo, Finnish National Ballet, and ROSAS/Parts. At Pacific Northwest Ballet, USA, he was teacher and ballet master.
Simon was Director of the National Ballet Academy in Amsterdam, and worked for years as a senior teacher at Codarts, Rotterdam.
Uri danced with the Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company in Israel and created his first choreographies there. After moving to The Netherlands he joined forces with Johan Greben to create Ivgi & Greben. They created new works for Ballet am Rhein, Szeged Contemporary Dance Company, Dansgroep Amsterdam, Introdans and Scapino Ballet, Korean National Contemporary Dance Company, Modern Dance Turkey; Norrdans and many others. Uri is based in Amsterdam and teaches at the Henny Jurriëns Studio and many other places.
After completing the Preparatory Course of the National Ballet Academy, Sylvia switched to the TheaterDance Teacher course. She graduated in 1995, specialising in classical ballet, children’s dance and modern dance. Sylvia is also an ABT® CertifiedTeacher. She successfully completed the ABT® Teacher TrainingIntensive in February 2014 in Primary through level 3 in New York and in February 2017 level 4 and 5.Sylvia teaches at Balletstudio Marieke van der Heijden(allied with the National Ballet Academy) and the Frank Sanders Academy.
